Javier Ortega de la Peña
Javier Ortega is partner and head of the Madrid office at Stender Deuretsbacher Heher. He has 24 years of professional experience as a lawyer in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and real estate, with a special focus on acquisition, construction and property finance. Together with his team, he mainly advises international banks in large real estate projects that cover the whole array of the property transactions.
Javier has previously served as partner at Herbert Smith Freehills (Madrid) and also headed the real estate department at Cuatrecasas, where he was a partner. He ran the real estate departments at Gómez Acebo y Pombo (Madrid) and Uría y Menéndez (Madrid) as well as the Vienna office of Bruckhaus Westrick Heller Löber (now Freshfields), where he was an associate.
He has several publications, among which are the “Principles of Global Law” (Aranzadi, 2006) and several articles on financial assistance, multilateral arbitration and the relationships between cadastre and land registry.
Javier has a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from the University of Navarra, a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) from the Law School of the University of Vienna, a JD from the University Complutense of Madrid and a PhD in Law from the University of Vienna. He is fluent in English, German (sworn translator), Russian and Spanish.
Javier currently teaches several classes on international context and legal frameworks in the Global Master in Real Estate Development program at IE School of Architecture & Design.
