Lourdes Fernández Bencosme
Originally from the Dominican Republic, professor Lourdes Fernández Bencosme holds a PhD in Romance Languages & Literatures from the University of Chicago, an MA degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a BA in History Summa Cum Laude from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. Her research interests and publications focus on the audiovisual and literary representations of globalization, particularly modernization and urbanization processes, popular music and youth culture in the Hispanic world. Lourdes is deeply interested in issues related to immigration, cultural diversity and social justice.
Dr. Fernández Bencosme started teaching when she was 22 years old at her original Alma Mater. Throughout her academic career, she has taught courses on Hispanic literature, film and gender studies at the University of Illinois, The University of Chicago, Universidad Autónoma de México, Suffolk University Boston, and Colgate University where she was a Visiting Professor of Humanities and Latin American Studies for three semesters. In Spain, she has been a faculty member at Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, Syracuse University and Suffolk University Madrid Campus. Lourdes joined IE University as an Adjunct Professor in 2017.
