Located in the heart of the city’s financial district, the IE Tower is the fifth tallest tower in Madrid and the seventh in Spain. The 180-meter tower is a bastion of sustainable architecture, providing over 50,000 square meters of dynamic, multi-use space.
With its close proximity to leading international companies and a mix of state-of-the-art facilities, the tower is a vibrant training ground for innovation and entrepreneurship, where life-changing connections are made on a daily basis. The IE Tower is a global reference point for academic innovation and learning technology, while also facing the challenges of urban real estate development head on. The result is an innovative, vertical learning space, which seamlessly integrates AI, VR, and AR elements into technology hubs and classrooms of the future.

At IE University, sustainability has many meanings and informs every decision we make. It was a key concern throughout the design and construction of the tower—and remains so as we move forward.

BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
We consider our commitment to sustainability to fall under three broad categories:
SOCIAL
Social sustainability involves ensuring the well-being of those around us, in the immediate IE community and beyond. Across all campuses, our students regularly take part in academic and club activities that are geared towards supporting those in need. These can range from the pro-bono Legal Clinic and the Social Impact Lab to community-focused design projects, like the student-led refurbishment project of the Segovia Public Library–Reading House.
ECONOMIC
A sustainable economy is fundamental for the continued betterment of society, and we take great pride in boosting the local economy during difficult times. Across our three centers of activity in Madrid and Segovia, we create a substantial impact as our students go out to restaurants, sign up for gyms and take part in myriad other activities. Aside from our presence, we also take an active role in key local projects, such as the Madrid Nuevo Norte which seeks to regenerate a large urban area in the north of the city.
ENVIRONMENTAL
Sustainability is crucial in securing the future health of our planet. Our goal by 2030 is to have zero net emissions—a figure we will be extremely proud to achieve. But environmental sustainability is about much more than energy consumption. This all-important issue influenced every aspect of the tower’s design, from the location with access to public transport to the type of building, which optimizes space. The true extent of what architect Fernando Serrano-Suñer de Hoyos has managed to achieve with their sustainable design is awe-inspiring. And it’s our duty to continue the fight. In 2020, we picked up where they left off by introducing a responsible consumption challenge, implementing policies to control and reduce our environmental impact in Segovia and Madrid. In 2021, we are focusing on Community Building. The power is in our individual actions, what we do is a reflection of who we are.

INNOVATIVE LEARNING SPACES
CLASSROOMS OF THE FUTURE
The Tower has 64 versatile classrooms, including four with a 360º design, all featuring natural light, intelligent climate and lighting control, and state-of-the-art technology tailored to our students' educational needs.
STUDENT HUBS
The perfect place to grab a coffee, have meetings or study in groups. The student hubs are also where students and faculty come together to exchange ideas in the heart of the IE University community.
MEDIA LAB
A space to practice using industry tools, learn about audiovisual production processes and work alongside other students either for class or to pursue another extracurricular interest.
FAB LAB
Where creatives and future professionals merge, the Fab Lab is a space to combine traditional methods like woodworking with modern and digital tools to help students projects take shape.
ROBOTICS LAB
Students will be guided by experts to develop their own ideas and projects using a host of tools, expanding their hands-on competencies in advanced technologies that include a RoboMaster Robot, three Dobot Magician robotic arms and IE University’s proprietary humanoid robot, TIAGo.
DESIGN STUDIO
An open-plan space to compare ideas with like-minded colleagues, turn ideas into realities and be creative. It's designed to adapt to various educational needs, whether it be individual study, group projects, or interactive workshops.

Open Spaces
Open spaces within the building in which to develop university life. They generate spaciousness and comfort, an open experience. Our students have one of the most impressive views of Madrid and can enjoy it outdoors since the tower has the highest terrace in Madrid.
