What is the IE Admissions Test?
The IE Admissions Department’s rigorous selection process includes the Admissions Test.
IE University’s Admissions Test is conducted in English and measures your verbal, logical and numerical skills to assess both in-class and extracurricular learning.
Above all, this test centers on your ability to reason and express your thoughts, rather than your knowledge of content-specific information. This means that you don’t have to study for the test to pass it successfully.
This rigorous exam is a flexible alternative to other standardized tests. Below you will find the minimum results we accept from other standardized tests:
- New SAT: Minimum 1200. 25th/75th Percentile: 1270/1460 IE University’s identification code “6293”
- ACT: Minimum 24 IE University’s identification code “5360”
- LNAT: Minimum 22
*Those applying for the Visiting Students Program are not required to take the Test.
*There are no authorized or official centers that can prepare candidates to take our Admissions Test. Thus, any website claiming to offer Admissions Test preparation is not affiliated with IE University.

What does The IE Admissions Test consist of?
Numerical reasoning
What to expect:
- 12 minutes to complete.
- 37 tasks: finish as many as you can.
- Determine the truth and accuracy of a statement based on the numerical data provided.
Verbal Reasoning
What to expect:
- 12 minutes to complete.
- 49 tasks: finish as many as you can.
- Determine the truth and accuracy of a statement based on the verbal information provided.
Deductive Logical Thinking
What to expect:
- Six (6) minutes to complete.
- Understand the pattern in the graphic provided and use logic to fill in the empty cell and complete the pattern.
Learning Efficiency
What to expect:
- Five (5) minutes to complete.
- Test your ability to remember objects that are shown very quickly in the right order.
Taking the IE Admissions Test
The IE Admissions Test is an important step in the application process that you can start when you fill out the Admissions Test section of the Online Application. By selecting the 24/7 machine-proctored test, we offer you the flexibility to take this exam online at any time—so it’s on your terms and when you are ready. To be able to sit the Admissions Test you must have paid the application fee payment. Please select the machine-proctored test on the application form under the section “Admissions Test” in order to select the quickest option (recommended by the admissions team). If you prefer to take the test monitored online by a member of our team, this is also an option for you, but it will depend on the availability of the admissions team.
Here are some helpful tips to consider and important information to know before taking the test:

TOTAL DURATION
Total duration: from one-and-a-half to two hours, including reading the instructions and completing the practice problems.

ATTEMPTS
The IE University Admissions Test may only be taken once.

LANGUAGE
The test is available only in English.

PRACTICE
During the test session, you will be able to practice through some example questions to get familiar with the test format.

REQUIREMENTS
You will use your personal laptop or computer, which must have an integrated camera and microphone, as well as a basic calculator. Before the Test session, you will receive an email with all the technical requirements to make sure your device supports the test software.

1. WHAT DOES IE UNIVERSITY’S ADMISSIONS TEST ENTAIL?
IE University’s Admissions Test has been developed as a means of determining your ability to answer questions about logical, verbal and numerical reasoning in English.
2. WILL I BE ABLE TO TAKE IE UNIVERSITY’S ADMISSIONS TEST MORE THAN ONCE?
No. IE University’s Admissions Test can only be taken once.
3. CAN I TAKE IE UNIVERSITY’S ADMISSIONS TEST BEFORE SUBMITTING MY APPLICATION?
Yes. But to be able to sit the IE University Admissions Test, you must have at least 25% of your application completed, including payment of the application fee.
4. WHAT IS THE DURATION OF IE UNIVERSITY’S ADMISSIONS TEST?
The estimated time to complete IE University’s Admissions Test is, on average, between 70 and 90 minutes.
5. WHEN DO I RECEIVE THE RESULTS OF IE UNIVERSITY’S ADMISSIONS TEST?
Your results will be sent directly to the IE University Admissions Committee and will not be shared with you.
6. ARE ALL QUESTIONS WEIGHTED EQUALLY?
No. IE University’s Admissions Test is designed in such a way that each question and section analyzes your diverse intellectual capacities, while also factoring in various aspects of the program you’re applying to.
7. WHAT IF I’M NOT ABLE TO ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS?
This is not a problem, since IE University’s Admissions Test measures correctness as well as how quickly you answer the questions. You should always try to answer as many questions as possible correctly.
8. CAN I LOSE POINTS FOR ANSWERING QUESTIONS INCORRECTLY?
Yes. The total score is a result of correctness and the time it takes to answer the questions.
9. IS THERE A SPECIFIC NUMBER OF ANSWERS NEEDED TO PASS THE TEST?
No. Scores are dependent on both the total number of questions you answer and the correctness of the response provided.
10. IS THERE A BREAK?
No, there is no set break provided in IE University’s Admissions Test.
11. HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR IE UNIVERSITY’S ADMISSIONS TEST?
While no particular test preparation is required, you can view example problems, similar to those in IE University’s Admissions Test, on our website by watching the screencast videos.
12. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY TEST GETS BLOCKED?
If your test gets blocked, please contact our Admissions Department at undergrad.admissions@ie.edu, with the subject: Admissions Test blocked. We will contact you in 24 working hours and unblock your test so that you can continue.
13. WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS?
If you have special educational needs, please contact our Admissions Department at undergrad.admissions@ie.edu, with the subject: Special educational needs. We will contact you indicating the documents you have to provide. In addition, if you will be taking the IE Admissions Test, please select the human-proctored option on the online application.
14. WHAT CAN I DO TO MANAGE NERVOUSNESS?
First, remind yourself that nervousness is absolutely normal! A certain amount of pre-test nervousness can even have a positive effect: it channels your attention and mobilizes your energy. 15. HOW CAN I CONNECT TO THE TEST IF I APPLIED THROUGH THE COMMON APP?
If you applied through the Common App, enter your email address and click on “Forgot Password.” Then, follow the instructions sent to you by email.
