Elizabeth Sánchez Chang
I’m originally from Atlanta, Georgia in the US. However, my parents are from Mexico and South Korea, and I’ve lived in both countries throughout my life. Now, in my fifth year pursuing my dual degree, I’ve made my home in Madrid, Spain! I like to spend my free time on my hobbies—hiking, writing, painting and traveling—or taking part in moot courts.
"Choosing to come to IE University was one of the best decisions I could have made for my personal and professional life."
Changing her world, one experience at a time
From a young age, Elizabeth Sanchez Chang knew that she wanted to be in spaces that inspired growth. Her goal was to be part of communities that cultivate innovative ideas and empower disruptive pioneers. So, when she discovered IE University, with its wide range of academic programs and extracurricular activities, plus a vibrant, diverse community and embedded culture of innovation—her path was clear.
“Choosing to come to IE University was one of the best decisions I could have made for my personal and professional life,” she says. Elizabeth is currently pursuing her Dual Degree in Business Administration + Laws in preparation to launch a career in the legal field. Through the program, she has honed her expertise in commercial and corporate law, management, entrepreneurship and more—all the essential skills necessary for a successful future in business and law. She believes that the unique double credentials/qualifications, coupled with her enriching experiences at IE University, will give her a distinct competitive edge.
Elizabeth’s journey is all about self-transformation. Her favorite quote? “We cannot become what we want by remaining what we are; start before you are ready.” It exemplifies her approach to life and learning, helping her keep an open mind to gaining new skills and perspectives from new experiences. And, it’s working: this ambitious fifth-year student has added an impressive list of achievements to her profile.
Professionally, she has been able to attend numerous on-campus events relevant to both her studies and career goals. These events have allowed Elizabeth to connect with leading legal professionals and add them to her professional network. For example, she met many talented people that continue to shape her “vision of the future” at The World Law Congress Madrid 2019.
Additionally, Elizabeth has actively participated in a plethora of community events. From the Law Society to Campus Life days and more, she points out that IE University has given her plenty of opportunities to “create new legacies and opportunities” for not only herself but other students too—both current and future. This is par for the course for the university, which Elizabeth admits “is always making sure they provide their students the most relevant and innovative educational experiences available.”
But that’s not all: in 2021, Elizabeth was voted the president of the new-look Debate Club, leading them in competing and winning international awards. With expert faculty guidance, they have also created several certified training programs and organized the very first Model UN conference at IE University, drawing students from all over the world. The club has been at the forefront of many other exciting events, such as inviting high-level executives from leading corporations like Paramount and HBO and creating invaluable networking opportunities for the whole IE Community.
Now in the final stretch of her program, Elizabeth’s attention is focused on the future, and the IE Talent & Careers department has been a vital part of her success. The team not only helped her build and refine an outstanding resume, they also guided her to internship opportunities aligned with her profile and goals. This year, she began laying the foundations for a global career by taking part in the IE University and Brown University Joint Summer Program in Providence, Rhode Island. She also has completed enlightening internships that have further sharpened her career focus.
As for the rest of her time at IE University, her goal is to slow down and fill her days doing more of her hobbies like writing and painting. Otherwise, you can always find Elizabeth participating in debate conferences or taking part in moot courts. Her plans after graduation are already set: Elizabeth hopes to take the bar exam in the US and become a practicing lawyer. Using the knowledge and skills gained in the Dual Degree in Business Administration + Laws, she also intends to start her own business.
Ultimately, Elizabeth aims to channel her professional and personal experiences into making a tangible impact on her community. “The rich culture of innovation and constant growth at IE University reflects in me and, I believe, has set me up for success in all areas of my life.”
