Sergio Sempere

Sergio Sempere is a perfect example of how creativity, strategy and law can come together in a single career path. While his passion has always been entertainment and all things media, his instincts and an unexpected opportunity led him to pursue a Dual Degree in Business Administration + Laws at IE University. After completing his secondary studies in London, he decided to return to Spain and found IE University to be the most innovative and international option in Madrid. The institution’s strong focus on entrepreneurship and the wealth of professional development opportunities sealed the deal for him.

The opportunity to study in a city as vibrant as Madrid, with such a rich cultural scene, was another key factor in his decision. "The city and its people pull you in," Sergio says. "Madrid is brimming with talent and people working on exciting projects." For him, the Spanish capital fosters a culture where people chase their dreams and work hard to achieve them—something he finds truly inspiring.

In Sergio’s opinion, there are two things that make IE University a truly special place: its practical, hands-on approach to learning; and its "extensive alumni network." He particularly values the many entrepreneurial activities and never misses an event related to international relations. On top of that, he also runs the Film & TV Industry Club, one of the university’s most popular clubs. It has given him the chance to host top executives from leading companies such as Netflix, Prime Video, SkyShowtime and Movistar+. The support the club has received from both IE University and the entertainment industry itself is something he is incredibly grateful for. "They have always been willing to help us." Interestingly, he almost went to the United States instead to study film, but ultimately realized that his management skills and creativity were the perfect combination to stand out in the entertainment industry.

Sergio believes that the Dual Degree in Business Administration + Laws is the ideal choice for aspiring entrepreneurs. "It gives you a 360-degree view of the business world and allows you to master the rules of the game." He saw the practical value of the program right from the start, as he and his classmates had the opportunity to apply what they were learning in real-life situations.

Another outstanding aspect of IE University, in Sergio’s opinion, is the strong support from the faculty members. He has had the opportunity to work with some of the best professionals in the field—which he greatly appreciates—and has particularly fond memories of the Contracts course taught by Javier Muñoz, General Counsel at PRISA Media. These classes introduced him to the world of commercial law and helped him understand the different types of contracts used in the various jurisdictions.

From the very beginning, Sergio understood that learning at IE University happens both inside and outside the classroom. IE Talent & Careers, in this regard, has been instrumental in his growth, guiding him and helping him find opportunities that align with his interests. "They are true passion finders," he says. Thanks to their support, Sergio has worked at leading companies in the industry, including at Shine Iberia, where he helped produce major shows such as MasterChef. He has also worked at Sony Music, learning from some of the best professionals in the entertainment business. As he looks back on these experiences, he feels incredibly fortunate to have had great mentors along the way.

Now, Sergio has big professional plans ahead, aiming to work in content production. He knows that the entertainment industry is constantly evolving and believes that adaptability is the key to success. "If I ever need to change course, I won’t hesitate to do so. But for now, I'm committed to following my dreams," he explains. He’s confident that the industry is booming and undergoing one of its biggest transformations, on par with the introduction of the home TV. Social media entertainment is already at the heart of pop culture, he believes, and it’s only a matter of time before budgets grow and major productions move to digital platforms.
