IE University brings together international experts from the world of humanities, sciences and technology at Hay Festival Segovia 2024

IE University will bring together internationally renowned experts in more than 30 conferences and debates at its historic Segovia campus until September 15.

Hay Festival Segovia today opens its 19th edition with 60 events exploring the impact of technology on the humanities, as well as the legal, philosophical and scientific challenges facing our society. IE University will bring together internationally renowned experts in more than 30 conferences and debates at its historic Segovia campus until September 15.

Among the main events to be held this week at IE University, Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño, Executive President of IE University, will reflect on education and philosophy, exploring the keys to critical thinking and the humanities in business management. Carlos Aganzo and Luis Alberto de Cuenca will discuss Juan de Tassis, one of the most important poets of the Spanish Golden Age with Diego del Alcázar Silvela, founder and President of IE University.

Mark Muller Stuart, an expert in international law, and Soraya Saénz de Santamaría, a former deputy prime minister of Spain and a member of the country’s Council of State, will discuss justice, conflict, democracy and the rule of law with Soledad Atienza, Dean of IE Law School. David Goodman, Dean of IE School of Architecture and Design, will reflect on trends in craftsmanship and technology in design with Simoneta Gómez-Acebo of the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity, Miguel Leiro of the Office of Design and Belén Llamas Ferrier of the Contemporary Association of Arts and Crafts.

Catalina Tejero, Dean of IE School of Humanities, will discuss art as a tool for raising awareness with the artist Clara Carvajal and Claudia Rodríguez-Ponga, an associate professor at IE University. The World Through the Classics is a workshop oriented toward young people with the writer Alfonso Goizueta and María José Ferrari, Vice Dean at IE School of Humanities. 

Marcus du Sautoy, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, will discuss the challenges of mathematics and technology in the 21st century with Ikhlaq Sidhu, Dean of IE School of Science and Technology. The five day event will also see Netflix launch its new series One Hundred Years of Solitude, with screenwriters Natalia Santa and Camila Brugés, who will analyze the keys to this adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's classic with Lourdes Fernández Bencosme, who teaches at IE School of Humanities. On September 14, IE’s Enrique Dans and China Center director José Félix Valdivieso will discuss the role of technology in the exercise of hard and soft power.
