IE University, through the IE Center for Health and Well-being, celebrated International Meditation Day on May 21 as part of its initiatives to promote health and well-being among its community of students, faculty and staff from 160 countries. Stefan Kiefer, creative director of Hong Kong Studios and former creative director of the German publication Der Spiegel, shared his insights on the benefits of meditation for enhancing creativity, as well as the role it has played in his personal life and career.

Outlining his experience of the keys to a deeper exploration of the self, as well as the benefits for promoting physical, mental and emotional well-being, Kiefer said: "It was quite courageous to put some things on a cover, but we just did, because sometimes you have to provoke. And I could only survive that pressure because I am a meditator."

Explaining IE’s approach to the human experience, Lisa Bevill, Academic Director of the IE Center for Health and Well-being, concluded:

"At IE University, we value a holistic understanding of the human being and the ecosystems in which we live; the demand and need for wellness practices that incorporate the interconnectedness of body, mind and soul, as well as the challenge of understanding the language and barriers to harnessing wellness as a catalyst for positive change."
