IE School of Communication (IE University) invites you to the 37th  meeting “Scientists and Professionals in communication”, series 2010-2011, where Fernando Bermejo,  Professor in Communication at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Adjunct professor at IE School of Communication, and Faculty associate at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society Harvard University, will give a talk in English  entitled  “The Commercialization of Interactivity: Technology, Economics, and Regulation”. 

Abstract: The interactive possibilities afforded by digital media facilitate new forms of user participation. The significance of this development is clearly multifaceted, but this talk will focus on its commercial dimension. It will trace the main forces—in terms of technology, business, and policy—that shape the commercialization of interactivity and will draw conclusions on the consequences of this commercialization for the wider online ecology.

Short Bio: Fernando Bermejo teaches Communication at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and is a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, Harvard University. He holds a doctorate from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, and an MA from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of “The Internet Audience: Constitution and Measurement” (Peter Lang, 2007) and editor of “On Communicating: Otherness, Meaning, and Information” (Routledge, 2009). His professional experience includes positions as research analyst at CDNOW and senior analyst at the Internet Research Group.
