Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño, new Executive President of IE University
Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño will become Executive President of IE University in January 2017. As Executive President, he will be heading the strategy of the five schools comprising this institution. He will be also driving further internationalization coupled with a special focus on developing new formats for the integration of learning and technology, consolidating long-life learning projects, establishing international agreements to create learning platforms with leading universities, and setting up new programs that attract talent and further raise levels of diversity on campus. Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño will be stepping down as Dean of IE Business School in January 2017. A selection committee, chaired by Íñiguez de Onzoño, has been working since last July on the succession process and will be appointing the new Dean at the beginning of 2017.
Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño joined IE Business School in 1991 as professor of Strategic Management. He served as Director of External Relations from 1995 to 2004, when he was appointed Dean of the School, which under his leadership has positioned itself as a leading center of learning for managers and entrepreneurs, being ranked No. 1 in the world of Online MBAs. Íñiguez de Onzoño has also been the driving force behind IE’s strategic alliances with universities like Ivy League member Brown University (US), and the creation of the FT-IE Corporate Learning Alliance, a platform for premium executive education programs run jointly with Financial Times. Iñiguez de Onzoño has served since the summer as Chairman of AACSB, an international accrediting body based in the US, being the first dean of a non-US School to hold the position.
IE University, which is ranked among the top 25 universities in the world for graduate employability (Times Higher Education, November 2016), runs education programs with a markedly international focus in the fields of management, law, architecture, international relations, human sciences and technology. IE University has facilities in Madrid and Segovia, and a student body comprised of 131 nationalities.
Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño
Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño joined IE Business School in 1991. Since then he has combined his academic work as Professor of Strategic Management with management positions that include Director of External Relations (1995) and Dean (2004).
Iñiguez’s outlook is a decidedly global one and in addition to his role as Chairman of AACSB, Iñiguez serves on the boards of Renmin University Business School (China), CENTRUM (Universidad Católica, Perú), Antai Business School (Jiao Tong University, China), Mazars University (France) the Russian Presidential Academy-RANEPA (Russia) and FGV-EASP Fundaçao Getulio Vargas (Brazil). He has been portrayed by the Financial Times as “one of the most significant figures in promoting European business schools internationally.”
Iñiguez holds a Degree in Law, a Ph.D. in Moral Philosophy and Jurisprudence (Complutense University, Spain) and an MBA from IE Business School. He was a Recognized Student at the University of Oxford, UK. He has co-authored several books on moral and political philosophy as well as articles and case studies on business management, and is also a LinkedIn Influencer. His books “The Learning Curve: How Business Schools Are Reinventing Education” (Palgrave McMillan, 2011) and “"Cosmopolitan Managers: Executive Education that Works" (Palgrave McMillan, 2016) deal with the future challenges of management education.
Íñiguez de Onzoño is a frequent guest speaker at international conferences and one of LinkedIn’s 500 Global Influencers. He is also a regular contributor to press and media.
