The Series that Will Get You Reading

Netflix will land at the Hay Festival with a presentation related to its new series "One Hundred Years of Solitude," an adaptation of the renowned work by Gabriel García Márquez. Directed by Álex García López and Laura Mora, the 16-episode series follows the steps of Aureliano Buendía and what happens in Macondo. This production also has the support of the writer's family. The series' screenwriters, Natalia Santa and Camila Brugés, will explore the keys to this adaptation alongside Lourdes Fernández Bencosme, a professor at the IE School of Humanities, in a session moderated by María Jesús Espinosa de los Monteros, General Director of PRISA Audio and a member of the Governing Council of the Gabo Foundation for Journalism.

Poetry and Music with James Massiah

British DJ and poet James Massiah will offer a session mixing dub, dancehall, and soca on September 12, in an event organized by HAY Festival Segovia in collaboration with the IE Foundation, British Council, and IE School of Humanities. This sound experience will be complemented by talented DJs from IE University and Cuban artist Karina Valero. The following day, Massiah will present a spoken word performance, inviting viewers to reflect through his profound narrative.

Conversations on Literature and Science

The festival also highlights discussions on science and technology. Neuroscientist Ignacio Morgado will converse with Inma Ballesteros, director of programming at Acción Cultural Española, among other debates featuring CERN’s artistic curator Ana Prendes, neuroscientist Susana Martínez-Conde, biochemist Carlos López-Otín, and mathematician Marcus du Sautoy.

Programming for Young Audiences

Highlights include the workshop “The World Through the Classics” with Alfonso Goizueta and María José Ferrari; the meeting “Reading as a Catalyst for Change” with Redry; and the participation of Eley Williams, selected by Granta magazine as one of the best young British novelists in 2023. Additionally, young poets such as Ernesto Delgado and Ben Clark will read their texts and discuss their creative process, alongside poet Elvira Sastre and Eva Orué, director of the Madrid Book Fair.

The festival continues with the Lviv BookForum series, featuring Ukrainian writer Tamara Duda and Dutch writer Jente Posthuma, who will share their personal and literary experiences.
