WELCOME!
Dear Student,
Congratulations on your acceptance to IE University! You’re about to embark on the next big adventure of your life here with us, as you begin your learning journey.
Here at IE University, we always put our students first. The Mentorship Society is a fun and welcoming group that’s ready to help you with the transition to university from your first day here. As mentees, you get the chance to make the most of your first year with a new guide (your mentor) and potential new friend!
This community is run by the Student Experience team here at IE University, who also have many exciting events ready for you to enjoy. Our team works to provide a welcoming and engaging experience for your time on campus. We work hard to create spaces and special moments for you to meet new friends, interact with the IE Community, and above all else, have a lot of fun!
We’re so excited to welcome you here on campus soon, and we can’t wait to help you integrate here at IE University!
Best wishes,
IE University Student Experience Team
YOUR MENTOR, YOUR FIRST FRIEND AT IE UNIVERSITY
Every mentee will be assigned to a mentor. Your mentor can answer your questions and give you advice in anticipation of arriving on campus in August, and will accompany and support you throughout the semester as you get used to your new surroundings, both on campus and off. The mentors are a select group of students, many of whom have recently been mentees themselves, who are looking forward to advising and socializing with new students.
IDEAL MENTEES ARE PROACTIVE!
- Actively approach their mentors with an open and inquisitive mind.
- Actively participate in mentorhip events such as the Kick-Off Weekend.
MENTEE PERKS
- Opportunities to meet and socialize with other first-year students in a fun, supportive environment
- Establish a close one-on-one relationship with your own mentor
- Get connected with the larger community of older students
- Have the opportunity to learn from experienced students about the workings of IE University and its resources
- Receive peer-to-peer support for common issues that affect university freshmen
- Extend social prospects across different programs of study
LET'S GET TOGETHER!
At the Mentorship Society Kick-Off, mentees can officially meet their mentors for the first time, socialize with other mentees, and have some fun with the planned activities!
Throughout the first months of university we have a variety of fun, cultural and informative events and activities for mentees and mentors to enjoy together. Aside from being a great opportunity to meet and catch up with other participants in our unique society of IE University students, mentees are expected to attend and participate in these events.
BECOME A MENTEE!
Here's how:
STEP 1
Begining in May, accepted new students who have paid their palce reservation are invited via email to apply to be a Mentee throughout the summer.
STEP 2
Once your application has been submitted, we’ll be working hard behind the scenes to match you to a mentor. If you have questions while you’re waiting, you can email us at MentorshipSociety.IEU@ie.edu.
STEP 3
Mentors and mentees will receive their notification of their matches in early August. They will also receive the details about the Mentorship Kick-Off event where they can officially meet their mentor!
STEP 4
It’s time to meet your mentor! The annual Mentorship Kick-Off event takes place at the end of Orientation Week in September. This is the perfect chance for mentors and mentees to meet and begin making their new friendship!
THINGS TO CONSIDER
Before you apply...
- 01.
MAKE A COMMITMENT
We are looking for first-years who want to be active participants in this program throughout the first semester. Most Mentorship Society events take place in September, while students are still getting a feel for the university and their new academic demands (see our Mentorship Society Calendar).
The more you put in, the more you’ll get out – our Mentors are selected especially for their high level of interest in activities beyond the classroom. We want our freshmen to do as best they can to be stay invovled throughout the program’s duration. - 02.
TAKE TIME (& CARE) WITH YOUR APPLICATION
We are looking for you to tell us about yourself and why you want to be a Mentee! This will also help us to match you with a Mentor that we think you’ll get along with. If you leave answers blank, or give only short, perfunctory answers to some questions, this may be considered grounds for discarding the application.
Please use a computer rather than a mobile device (tablet or smartphone) to fill out the application.
