Life at IE University is more than just classes, internships and academic rigor—it's about the experience as a whole. The hobbies and passions our students pursue, the friendships they make and the daily lives they lead all form part of the IE Experience. That's why we're thrilled to present In Their Shoes, a captivating video series that offers a sneak peek into the lives of our current students.
From morning routines and late-night study sessions to football practice, art exhibitions and developing new business ideas, our students are an extensive mix of talents, interests and backgrounds. These videos showcase the holistic experience offered at IE University, while also demonstrating the diversity, community spirit and personal growth that are integral to life on campus.

CARLOS LOAIZA
Bachelor in Design
For Carlos Loaiza, the magic of design lies in seeing the little details in life that others might ignore. Carlos, or “Charlie” as everybody knows him, is devoted to every aspect of his craft, and came to IE University for a holistic learning experience. He found it in the Bachelor in Design, and is busy expanding his own ideas by taking in those of other students of the program.
Design is about making an impact on people, he tells us, and he can’t imagine his life without it. It’s part of his identity and helps him understand who he is, despite its changeability. Indeed, Charlie tries to change the way he thinks and works every year.
SAMER ROZ
Dual Degree in Business Administration & Data & Business Analytics
Samer Roz is a true example of a global citizen. Born in Canada but raised in the UAE, he now lives in Spain as a student of the Dual Degree in Business Administration + Data & Business Analytics at IE University. Outside his academic commitments, Samer has a busy schedule of extracurricular activities as a musician and captain of the basketball team, among other interests. In Samer’s eyes, time is precious and he intends to make good use of every moment.
Tomas Lucero
Dual Degree in Business Administration & International Relations
Meet Tomás Lucero, a fourth-y ear student in the Dual Degree in Business Administration & International Relations at IE University. Inspired by his volunteering experiences during the IB, Tomás is dedicated to social initiatives and actively shapes positive change. As the president of the IE Charity Club and the IE Student Sustainability Committee, he contributes to the university's ecosystem. Tomás, a global citizen with a passion for geopolitics, embraces change and advocates for a conflict-free world. Discover his journey and commitment to making the most of the IE Experience.
Isabella Deshon
Bachelor in Communication and Digital Media
Isabella Deshon is a second-year Bachelor in Communication and Digital Media student. Her IE University journey started due to her love of movies, in particular filmmaking. Throughout her time so far at IE University, she’s had the chance to learn more about public relations, participate in the IE Theater Club, screen a short film at a film festival and fearlessly jump into many other challenges.

Meet Beyzanur Inal, a resilient student at IE University pursuing a Dual Degree in Business Administration & Laws. Forced to flee from Turkey and Senegal, Beyzanur overcame language and educational barriers to fulfill her academic dreams with a full scholarship thanks to the support of IE Financial Aid. She's not only thriving academically but also gives back by helping refugees at Casa Turca, a Madrid-based NGO. Committed to shaping a fairer world, Beyzanur is a testament to how dedication and a supportive community can lead.
Haozhe (James) Huang
Bachelor in Business Administration
Meet James Huang, a finance-focused student at IE University who chose to fully immerse himself in Spanish culture by living with a host family. This unique experience has not only enriched his life in Madrid but has also broadened his culinary horizons. James secured a rare internship with Quadriga Asset Managers, one of Madrid's leading hedge funds, where he gained invaluable experience in economic research and financial modeling. With a strong academic record and real-world experience, James is well on his way to a successful career in finance.

Meet Sergio Nuhrmann, a globe-trotting student at IE University with a passion for soccer and community. Originally from South Africa and having lived in multiple countries, Sergio found his ideal environment in Madrid's vibrant culture. He has put his productivity and time-management skills to the ultimate test, playing professional football for Real Madrid FC while maintaining his academic commitments. Armed with diverse skills and a proactive attitude, Sergio is poised to make the most of any opportunities that come his way.

Roché Smith Rabie
Bachelor in Architectural Studies
Roché Smith Rabie, a South African with a global upbringing, found her match at IE University, where the diverse and vibrant environment exceeded her expectations. Pursuing a Bachelor in Architectural Studies, she thrives on collaborative experiences in the Fab Lab, building relationships with peers. Beyond academia, Roché is making her mark as a writer at the intersection of architecture and writing, contributing to The Stork, IE Insights, and Prologue Magazine.
Derin Kurultak
Dual Degree in Business Administration & Data and Business Analytics
Derin is a multi-talented student from İzmir, Turkey, studying the five-year Dual Degree in Business Administration & Data and Business Analytics program. Raised in a tech-savvy and business-oriented family, she balances technical skills like coding with creative pursuits such as playing the piano. Active in the IE Women in Business Club and the IE Girl Up Club, Derin is dedicated to gender equality and student well-being. Looking ahead, she aspires to join leading tech companies and eventually delve into psychology studies.
Laura Villax
Dual Degree in Philosophy, Politics, Laws and Economics & Data and Business Analytics
Laura is a Dual Degree in Philosophy, Politics, Laws and Economics & Data and Business Analytics student. Embracing challenges, she moved from Lisbon to Segovia to attend IE University. Laura serves as an academic officer in student government and leads the Segovia chapter of the IE Women in Business Club. She's also worked as a consultant for 180 Degrees Consulting and contributed to a UN-affiliated NGO project. An athlete at heart, Laura switched from equestrian riding to university hockey. Though her future path is still undecided, her dual academic focus equips her for a data-driven, interconnected world.
Abdul Salam

Abdul is studying IE University’s Dual Degree in Business Administration & Data and Business Analytics. Active on campus, Abdul plays field hockey and founded the ieThink initiative through student government, serving as the advisor to the president. He's impressed by IE University’s dedicated staff and enjoys the intellectual engagement. Ambitious by nature, he aspires to revolutionize the banking system after completing a master's degree.
Teresa Olombrada
Dual Degree in Laws & International Relations
Inspired by her time near European institutions in Brussels, Teresa aspires to become a diplomat. She chose IE University for its unique Dual Degree in Laws & International Relations, which she believes are interlinked disciplines. She values IE University's practical approach and diverse faculty, saying it prepares her for the global workplace. Beyond academics, she's interned at IE University Athletics, promoting women's sports in Segovia. Actively involved on campus, she captains the women’s football team and leads the photography club. She's open to various sectors and eager to find her true calling.
Justin Morgan
Bachelor in International Relations
Justin, a 20 year old from Atlanta, is studying the Bachelor in International Relations at IE University in Segovia. He appreciates the blend of writing, global cultures and political science in his program. Justin is the assistant editor-in-chief for the student-run digital newspaper, The Stork, managing editorial content and team coordination. Outside of academics, he enjoys mountain biking and hiking, and even maintains an Instagram page to share his outdoor adventures. Justin is considering a future in local Atlanta politics, driven by his personal connection to the city. Overall, he values IE University for its academic rigor and close-knit community.
Federica Caso
Bachelor in Design
IE University student Federica values the Bachelor in Design's broad scope and business ties. Inspired by her architect grandfather and a diverse background that includes stints in Venezuela, the US and Italy, she thrives in the program's multidisciplinary approach. Federica adapted to remote learning and is working on a master's project exploring modern nomadism. She aims to use her comprehensive design education to eventually open her own studio in South America, where she believes her skills can make a meaningful impact.
Alessandro Franco
Dual Degree in Business Administration & Laws
From a small town near Milan, Alessandro's diverse background also spans London and Dubai, shaping his global perspective and choice to pursue a Dual Degree in Business Administration & Laws at IE University. He's leaning toward a legal career but hopes to blend it with his passion for theater, where he serves as vice president of the theater club in Segovia. The historic campus and the city's natural surroundings resonate with his small-town roots and he looks forward to leveraging faculty expertise for internship opportunities in law.
Isa M. Rosberg

Originally from a small Swedish town, Isa has found a welcoming home in IE University's diverse community, starting at the Segovia Campus before transitioning to Madrid. Isa is pursuing a Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics, Law and Economics, an interdisciplinary program that allows her to explore multiple career paths. Though she hasn't yet decided on a specific track, she's keen on finding a niche where her lifelong interest in technological innovation intersects with policy making, perhaps in the realm of cyber law. As she looks to the future, Isa aims to forge a career that aligns with her values.
Isabel Nicole Limpo
Bachelor in Architectural Studies
Isabel Nicole Limpo chose IE University's Segovia Campus for her Bachelor in Architectural Studies, captivated by the city's rich historical architecture. Originally from the Philippines, she appreciates the campus's international community, which hosts students from over 130 countries. Outside of academics, Isabel values IE University's extracurricular offerings; she boxes to relieve stress and plays the violin to express her artistic side. The vibrant atmosphere and diverse activities on offer perfectly align with her educational and personal goals.
Giulia de Oliveira
Bachelor in Communication and Digital Media
Giulia de Oliveira has found a second home at IE University in Segovia. Hailing from Brazil but having lived in England and Portugal, she appreciates the campus's international diversity. With her academic director as a mentor, Giulia has secured valuable internships and gained career insights. Outside academics, she's musically inclined, participating in a local music group that meets weekly. Giulia's well-rounded experience has also included a six-month marketing internship at the university, adding practical skills to her academic pursuits. She values the cultural richness and hands-on learning opportunities at IE University.
