CHALLENGES & MOOTS

Our distinct, hands-on approach is an integral aspect of the LL.B. program, which allows students to gain a real-world perspective of the practice of law, and acquire the practical skills needed for their chosen professional paths. For this reason, IE Law School offers an array of Law Challenges and Moot Court Competitions, so that students can put into action their knowledge and skills.​

Law Challenges are competitions organized by IE University for its law students, primarily for those in their first, second and third years. The Moot Competitions, on the other hand, are aimed at students in their third, fourth and fifth years, and require students to take part in an innovative learning methodology that exponentially enriches their legal education.​

IE Law School participates in the most important Moot Court Competitions in the legal sphere, such as the European Human Rights Moot Court Competition, the Jessup Moot Court Competition, the Europa Moot Court Competition, Moot Madrid and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Aside from these, IE Law School organizes its very own Comparative Law in Action Competition, which encompasses law, policy and technology in a digital, multidisciplinary case.​

Comparative Law Action | IE University

Are you interested in assessing policies that influence all the important issues arising in today’s society? IE University will host top universities in the first international university competition in Comparative Law, Technology and Policy.

This virtual challenge, that places technology in the center of the experience, invites participants to work on a cutting-edge multi-media case, resulting in an immersive and engaging real-world experience. A final 3-day experiential event will take place in Madrid where participants will attend different workshops, work in teams and pitch their projects to a panel of juries.

Immerse yourself in hands-on learning with impact in our Legal Clinic and work in collaboration with startups, social entrepreneurs, NGOs, foundations and other organizations. Students will perfect their legal research skills, drafting and presentation capabilities, as well as critical thinking, creativity in finding solutions, ability to interact with different legal stakeholders and gain a wider vision of Law, as the clinic offers a variety of projects that fall under different areas.

Interested in the intersection of law, business and technology?

The Law Without Walls (LWOW) competition, experiential part-virtual learning initiative, unites leading lawyers and professionals with students from 30 top law and business schools from around the world to co-create innovative solutions to problems at the intersection of law+business+technology. The program culminates in an in-person event, where teams present their project to a panel of judges.

Moot Court Competitions are experiences that focus on learning by doing and offer a unique and irreplaceable experience to round off top legal education and face the challenges of teamwork, legal argument and application of law. In recent years, IE’s students have participated and won several of them. Competitions generally focus on a very complex case developed by each individual Moot on specific issues. Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) students have the opportunity to take part in the following Moot Court Competitions: European Human Rights Moot Court Competition, Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, Europa Moot Court Competition, Sports Arbitration Moot and Moot Madrid Court Competition.

  • LEGAL TECH MONTH

Every semester, students are exposed to different Law Challenges – from the Roman Law Challenge to the European Union Law Challenge and the Commercial Law Challenge with Herbert Smith Freehills.

We foster students to learn in different setting and inspire them to be creative, litigating a fictitious and topical case involving the course. Finals are conducted in the form of a moot simulated hearing, preparing them for future Moot Court Competitions.

IE Law School’s Mentorship Program aims to help junior and senior law students build their CVs and gain exposure to top international and domestic law firms. The Program takes place each year during the second semester, from January to May. Each student will be paired with a lawyer with similar interests who specializes in the desired field of law. Throughout the course of four months, together, the mentor and mentee will discover the best ways in which the student can fulfill his or her academic and professional goals. The experience, knowledge and advice from the Mentor will prove to be an invaluable tool – not only to polish certain skills and strengths, but to open the students’ minds to an array of opportunities and options within the legal sector.


You will be able to experience a curated, intense, engaging and dynamic one-month program dedicated to Legal Tech. This program is full of inspirational presentations, workshops, seminars, roundtables and events, guaranteeing you learn the basics of legal technology and legal innovation so that you can reimagine the future of law. From academic lectures to personal stories, you will be able to ask questions, network with legal innovators and gain an in-depth insight into the world of legal technology.

  •  INNOVATION AND INCLUSION BOARD

    At IE Law School, we pride ourselves on fostering a student-centric environment, where the voices and ideas of our students play a pivotal role in shaping their educational journey. Our Innovation and Inclusion Committee exemplifies this commitment, consisting of a dedicated board of 10 highly engaged students. The committee actively addresses key aspects of the student experience, including tackling issues such as artificial intelligence, technology in the classroom, enhancing communication, and improving the student journey. Additionally, our board members propose and organize impactful initiatives, including LGBTQ+ events, the creation of a Law Hub, and a Student Spotlight program. This dynamic committee ensures that our students not only thrive academically but also contribute to a vibrant and inclusive community at IE Law School.​

  • HONOURS PROGRAM

    The IE Undergraduate Honours Program is open to all bachelor students ranking in the top 5% of their program. It provides enrolled students with experiences that foster academic vigor and professional prospects. The university hosts a specialized program for participating students—an exciting academic environment in which they can network and learn with top-tier industry professionals. With presentations on the most relevant topics and critical insights from the current world, the course also features a launch event and closing ceremony to be enjoyed by all students and visiting professionals.

  • THE LAW SOCIETY

    The Law Society is a student-led professional club, composed of undergraduate and graduate students. The Law Society offers monthly events related to legal issues in the form of panels, debates, conferences, workshops and networking events.
    Students are invited to be part of the club and gain new perspectives and views on different legal topics.

  • IE ETHICS AND COMPLIANCE CLUB

    IE Ethics & Compliance Club is a student led initiative that aims to spread and foster discussions transparency, independence, diversity, and accountability in the corporate and public sectors, as well as foster discussions on areas touching ethics and compliance. As an organization led by student leaders, the Club realizes its responsibility towards sustainable development and global transformation and has adopted three of 17 of the (SDGs into their strategy: 9, 16, and 17).

  • ADVANCED SEMINARS

    Interested in exploring other academic disciplines? These seminars offer all IE University students the passport to gain insights into different specializations from current practitioners.
