FIRST YEAR—INTRODUCTION TO FASHION DESIGN, FASHION MARKETING, MERCHANDISE & SALES, HUMANITIES
You´ll begin your introduction to fashion design with a focus on the body, textiles, and proportion. These studio courses are accompanied by construction and craft workshops focusing on sustainable materials and techniques, as well as the assembly of garments through patternmaking. You’ll also learn about design methodologies, graphic communication tools and illustration tools, along with an introduction to the history of art and design.
Additionally, you’ll explore the fundamentals of fashion marketing, merchandise and sales, as well as a thorough grounding in the humanities. You’ll cover topics such as financial accounting, management tools and principles, microeconomics and cost accounting. And you’ll gain a thorough grounding in other vital skills including relationship-building, research & academic writing skills, and an introduction to programming.
SECOND YEAR—FUNDAMENTALS OF THE FASHION INDUSTRY, SOURCING & PRODUCTION, DIGITAL TOOLS & TECHNIQUES
In your second year, you’ll turn your attention to more complex issues in fashion design, including the creation of cohesive collections and series, and to sustainable strategies in design. You’ll also explore fashion design history, fashion photography, video and styling, as well as learning about socially responsible sourcing and production, including principles of circularity in fashion.
During this year, you’ll also explore business-driven information technologies, focused around digital tools and techniques for fashion design. You’ll delve deeper into financial and managerial topics, including organizational behavior, corporate finance, capital markets and statistics & data analysis. And you’ll get to grips with the world of brand design and communication as part of a marketing strategy.
THIRD YEAR—STRATEGIES FOR COMPETING IN INDUSTRIES AND MARKETS, SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT, SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE SOURCING AND PRODUCTION
In the third year, you’ll deepen your understanding of fashion marketing, merchandising and sales, exploring topics such as inclusive design. You’ll take a closer look at supply chain management, human capital management and data analysis for economics. In the first semester of your third year, there’s an opportunity to take part in the IE University Challenge. And in the second semester, you can elect to study abroad at one of our partner universities, to enroll in our series of Alternative Practices electives, or to undertake a curricular internship.
FOURTH YEAR—FASHION ENTREPRENEURSHIP & STRATEGY, PROFESSIONAL ETHICS AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF FASHION
In the fourth year, you’ll turn your attention to business law and strategies for multinational corporations in today’s disruptive world. In the first semester, you’ll have the opportunity for more concentration courses, electives or a second exchange or internship. You’ll also get the chance to take part in the IE Challenge.
FIFTH YEAR—FASHION ENTREPRENEURSHIP & STRATEGY, SPATIAL DESIGN, EVENT DESIGN, AND FINAL PROJECT
The final year serves as your springboard into your fashion career, with a focus on experimentation and haute couture in the first semester and your final project or collection in the second. You’ll explore contemporary debates in cultural production, as well as digging deeper into aspects of technology, data analysis for economics, and operations management. As you develop your final collection or project, you’ll also learn about the design of events and spaces, while focusing on communication and brand design as well.
