Final Project for the Bachelor in Design, Class of 2022.
The initial briefing I received for the Final Project of the Bachelor of Design was to distil the 4 years of accumulated knowledge within the design program towards an individual final project. This project has been an opportunity to identify where my talents overlap within a professional context. I am interested in - the art and technology sector to engage individuals at the bridge of the physical and the digital space.
There is a big opportunity for digital artists in the NFT movement. However, there is an overload of artworks that is being uploaded into linear marketplaces. This lack of curation is devaluing the NFT movement making it difficult to navigate. Curators have an important role in the Art Community. They provide order in the middle of chaos. They care for the artworks to create meaningful and cohesive structure to elevate the artist's artwork; while also educating the public about the artists and cultural movements.
Then, I created FAR. This is a start-up project focused on curating and designing an immersive art gallery using augmented reality. The advantage of AR over VR is that it is accessible with a hand-held device. The project has two aims: (1) To offer Digital and NFT artists a showroom to display their artwork and (2) to provide the Art and Humanities community with an opportunity to experience this emerging digital cultural movement.
FARs first exhibition is Digital Neo-surrealism. The theme focuses on elevating the ordinary experience to surreal visuals, using digital tools. Augmented reality provides the medium for emerging surrealist artists to release their creativity. This exhibition also aims to educate the public on the capacity for AR to serve as a bridge between the real and the digital worlds.
In the near future, FAR will continue to give more exposure to this new digital cultural movement.
