This project revolutionizes the utilization of damaged t-shirts through an efficient and technically-driven system of collaboration. It establishes a seamless partnership between Pacas, the second-hand clothing stores in Guatemala, and skilled weavers to maximize the value derived from these garments.
Pacas serve as the primary suppliers of damaged t-shirts, with a systematic sorting and categorization being implemented, considering factors such as type of damage and materiality. This enables optimized matching with weavers, ensuring the most suitable garments are assigned for upcycling.
Weavers, equipped with their expertise in textile craftsmanship, utilize innovative techniques and creative design approaches to transform the damaged t-shirts. Leveraging traditional and contemporary weaving methods, they produce unique, high-quality upcycled products that add significant value to the original garments. This partnerships generate economic opportunities for both Pacas and weavers while promoting sustainable practices and reducing textile waste. By implementing this systematic collaboration, the project optimizes resource utilization, enhances skill development, and contributes to a more circular and efficient textile industry in Guatemala.
