What happens when twelve people from seven nationalities come together to spend eleven intensive weeks learning about Data Science? Well, two weeks into our Data Science Bootcamp, it’s proving to be an exciting journey of discovery – and things are only getting better.

My name’s Carmen and I’m one of the bootcampers taking part in this incredible initiative. From a young age, I’ve been passionate about technology and innovation. This passion has driven me to get involved in different initiatives. I’ve been a part of the Rafel del Pino’s robotic team as well as AI Saturdays Madrid leads. Now, at this bootcamp, I’m continuing to pursue my dream while exploring the fundamentals of AI.

So, what does a normal day look like? Honestly, it’s quite intense – but I wouldn’t want it any other way! We learn something new every day. It’s only the second week and we’ve already worked with a huge dataset, tested a model and displayed the data graphically. You quickly understand the enormous potential of Data Science and just how many paths it can take you down.

We are currently learning about Python, R and Maths and Stats and we’ve also started the Data Lab sessions. These are focused on developing projects that can help companies overcome real challenges they’re facing. We’ve received datasets from Endesa, B&A Glass and investing.com, and are beginning to look at the structure of the code and planning the solutions we’ll implement over the next two months. On top of all this, we will also look into Data Visualization, Data Acquisition and Machine Learning in the coming weeks. Like I said, it’s a really intensive program!

One thing that surprised me about the bootcamp was the importance placed on “Resilience”. This is an additional activity that is designed to help us focus better while also managing stress and promoting self control. I find it incredible just how many different mindfulness techniques we are using to improve how we work.

The bootcamp has definitely been an overwhelmingly positive experience so far. We’ve already learned so much from each other while working hard on shared projects to become experts in the most important emerging field of this century.
